Maestro works by connecting to your everyday appliances.
Here’s how Maestro works for you and works for the grid.
Maestro works in two parts: smart hardware + intelligent software.
Maestro works with:
Space heaters like bar heaters, oil column heaters, panel heaters, radiant heaters
Heat pumps Coming soon!
EVs which are charged at home with a standard 3-pin plug
We supply and set up Maestro hardware at no cost to you. Behind the scenes, our software platform learns usage patterns and orchestrates how energy is used. However there’s no fiddly apps to learn. Simply use your appliances as usual, and twice a year, we’ll credit your bank account with a payment.
If you have a Wi-Fi connection, any of these appliances, and you live in the areas we serve, you can get Maestro!
Space heaters
Maestro works with any brand of portable electric heater that plugs into the wall through a power socket. Including; radiant heaters, bar heaters, fan heaters, and oil column heaters. (Note: Maestro doesn’t work with heaters that are wired in).
Heat pumps Coming soon!
Maestro works with any brand of wall-mounted heat pump that you control with a remote control.
Electric vehicle (EV)
If you charge your EV at home using a standard 3-pin plug (sometimes called ‘slow charging’ or ‘trickle charging’) then you can get Maestro! The power point you use must be located inside - like inside your garage - not outside. (Note: Maestro isn’t available for fast chargers just yet).
Our devices are small and smart. We earn money by helping the grid. Then, we share this with you.
Small, smart devices
Maestro’s hardware devices are small and discreet. They communicate with our cloud-based software platform using a Wi-Fi connection and make small adjustments to energy use.
You stay in charge
Maestro learns typical usage patterns, so any adjustments shouldn’t disrupt your daily routines or comfort.
However, you are in control. You can override Maestro at any time. For space heaters and EVs there is a single button to turn Maestro on or off (remember to turn it back on so you can collect rewards), and with heat pumps just use your remote control as usual.
Rewards for building a smarter grid
Shifting small amounts of electricity is called “energy flexibility” and grid operators pay Maestro to provide this service.
Grid operators already make payments to big industry players like generators and or factories for energy flexibility.
Until now, there’s been no way for ordinary people to take part, but Maestro is bringing our tech to everyday people, so - like the big players - you can help the grid and get rewarded for it.
Earn up to $200 a year
With multiple connected appliances, you could earn up to $200* a year.
By orchestrating when your heaters and heat pumps use energy, Maestro may help to reduce your household power usage, meaning you could see meaningful savings on your electricity bills.**
Sign up for your free Maestro today and start getting rewarded!
* Actual rewards will vary depending on factors such as property location, the number and type of connected appliances, overall household energy use, and individual usage behaviours. Annual rewards of up to $200 (NZD) are estimated, based on modelling for a New Zealand home with one EV, one heatpump, and one space heater connected to Maestro.
** Energy savings may be made against your heating and cooling-related energy usage when you use your heaters or heat pumps in the usual way.
Safety and reliability is a top priority
Our hardware is engineered and tested to handle your standard 10 amp EV charger. It’s tested and fully certified to NZ safety standards.
The engineers in our team have worked in electricity for decades and the safety and reliability of our tech are top priorities.
Expanding the grid costs the earth. Literally. Maestro saves money and emissions.
You’ve read the news stories about the price of power going up because of the cost of grid upgrades. Our energy grid simply wasn’t designed for the amount of electricity we use today. As we transition away from fossil fuels, we need a smarter grid: a grid that can manage the flow of power from energy sources like wind and solar, to the places where energy is needed most.
More poles and wires? That’s 20th-century thinking. Maestro makes better use of the grid we already have. By getting Maestro you can help lower costs, reduce emissions, and play a part in a cleaner energy future.
